Dental Implants

Who is suitable for Dental Implants?

Adults with good general health. In cases with severe bone loss, a Bone Grafting procedure might be needed before inserting Dental Implants. Check our Bone Grafting leaflet for more info.
To assess if you have enough jaw bone, our specialist will perform a CBCT Scan, the latest 3D Imaging technique used to evaluate the height and the width of the bone available for implant placement.

What does the procedure involve?

Once a treatment plan has been designed for your individual needs, a screw-like implant is placed into the socket of the missing tooth. Before any replacement teeth can be added, your mouth will need to heal from six to 16 weeks for the jawbone to secure around the implant.
After the healing period is over, an abutment is placed on top of the implant. This is a small connector that keeps the crown secured to the implant. Your dentist will then make an impression of your teeth, which will be used as a model for the replacement tooth. This tooth will be matched to the color of your natural teeth and function just as your other teeth do.

Is it painful?

The procedure is normally conducted under local anesthesia, although some complex cases might require sedation or even GA. The day after the surgery you may experience some swelling and bruising, which will resolve in a couple of days.

How long will Dental Implants last?

They usually last as original teeth for patients who regularly brush, floss, and follow the dental recommendations made at their check-ups. However, Dental implants in smokers are four times as likely to fail when compared to implants in non-smokers. Smoking leads to gum recession and disease, making the implant structure weaken over time.

How do I take care of my Dental Implants?

Good oral hygiene is important to improve your implants’ life span. Cleaning your implants is easy and is just the same way that you would around natural teeth and tooth-supported bridges.
