What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal Fillers are natural or synthetic gels of Hyaluronic Acid, a sugar chain molecule which is naturally present in young skin but decreases as we age.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
As we age the collagen and elastin fibres which provide strength and support to the face tissues break down and, as a result, our lines and wrinkles become more visible and deeper.
Dermal Fillers are injected underneath the wrinkle or fold to lift the skin and restore its natural volume. Hyaluronic acid works by attracting and binding water in the skin, providing volume and hydration with the end result of ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres to restore your face’s youthful appearance.
What areas can be treated with Dermal Fillers?
The most common treated areas are the nasolabial folds, the marionette lines and the lips. We also use Dermal Fillers in the Max Fax™ Sculpting technique by Dr. Maen (check the flyer for more info!).
Are Dermal Fillers safe?
Hyaluronic Acid has been used for over 20 years and it is FDA approved. The Hyaluronic Acid formulation used in Dermal Fillers is almost identical to the one naturally found in young skin and it is not derived from animal sources, hence there is no risk of disease transmission or allergic reactions.
Do Dermal Filler injections hurt?
Just a little, especially when treating sensitive areas, such as lips. However the application of a topical anaesthetic cream and the use of a cannula (micro-needle) reduce discomfort. After all, Beauty has a price!
