Lip Laser

Say good-bye to dark lips!

The outer environment and bad lifestyle habits are critical factors responsible of the health and appearance of our skin and soft tissues. In particular, lips are a very sensitive area and hence might be more affected.

What is lip pigmentation?

Lip pigmentation can be either a darkening of lips with the appearance of spots or a two-tone lip colour which is also known as ‘lip discoloration’. It is a common skin condition normally due to exposure to extreme wheatear conditions (dryness or sun exposure) or to bad habits (alcohol, smoking) or to particular health disorders (anemia, melasma) or simply for genetical reasons.

How is lip pigmentation treated?

The depigmentation process involves the use of Laser.

What is the mechanism of action involved?

Laser Depigmentation is based on selective photothermolysis principle. Laser energy is transformed into ablation energy, resulting in cellular rupture and vaporization with minimal heating of the surrounding tissue. Different laser techniques have been used for treatment of oral melanin pigmentation. The technique requires high accuracy and precision and involves the depigmentation of the lips through the utilization of Laser by using specific parameters, different for each case.

Does it hurt?

The level of discomfort is different for every person depending on the severity of the case.  The majority of our patients do not request any pain control after treatment and relate the discomfort as comparable to mild sunburn. As per our protocol, your lips will be anesthetized prior the treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

One single session of a treatment takes only 3-5 minutes. Depending on your specific case, the treatment might require between 3 to 6 sessions, at two weeks intervals between sessions. After completion of the treatment it is recommended a maintenance visit once a year.

What should I expect immediately after the treatment?

You will feel the area hot, sometimes for up to several hours. Discomfort disappears over the next few hours. You may notice a slight redness or swelling up on your treated lips, don’t worry, it will be only for a short period of time.

Can the excess pigmentation come back?

Genetic factors make every person unique and so is their response to treatments, hence we are unable to guarantee individual results. However, common pigmented lesions do not return, and to get the best results we recommend a maintenance visit once a year.
